Dentures in Dallas
Restore Your Ability to Eat, Speak & Smile
Dentures are appliances that are used to replace missing teeth. They can be full or partial, depending on whether an individual has any remaining healthy natural teeth or not. Dentures are generally removable, but implant dentures provide a more permanent solution to missing teeth. At Skulman Dental, we provide dentures in Dallas for our patients with exceptional quality care that is tailored to their needs.
Types of Dentures
Dentures are often used to replace teeth lost as a result of gum disease, decay, or injury. Dentures help improve your overall appearance, as well as your ability to eat and speak normally. They are designed to closely resemble natural teeth, so your appearance will be greatly enhanced with these replacement teeth. There are a few different options for dentures.
The most common types of dentures include:
- Conventional removable dentures
- Immediate dentures that are inserted when your teeth are removed
- Over-dentures, which are designed to fit over a few remaining teeth
- Implant dentures, which are permanently held in place by dental implants
It is common for new dentures to feel strange at first, and they may feel loose as you learn to adjust to them when eating and speaking. Although dentures will replace your missing teeth, removable dentures won’t stop the loss of the bone structure that supports your gums and soft tissue. If you are concerned about bone loss, implant dentures may be the best solution for you.
Implant Dentures
Implant dentures are a type of over-denture. Rather than being held in place by the remaining teeth, they are supported by dental implants. This can be a good option for individuals with no teeth, but sufficient bone to support dental implants. After the implants are placed and allowed to heal, the dentures are attached to the implants with special snap on attachments to hold the dentures in place.
There are several advantages to these dentures. Implant dentures solve the problem of bone loss and prevent the shrunken appearance to the face that occurs when the jawbone recedes after tooth loss. In addition, they are fixed in place allowing you to chew, speak, and smile like you would with your own natural teeth. We offer implant dentures in Dallas in our office with no referrals necessary.
Caring for Your Dentures
Although dentures won’t decay like natural teeth, proper care is still needed to keep them in good shape. For removable dentures, brush the gums and inside of the mouth before putting them in each day. Rinse your dentures before brushing, use a soft bristle brush and gently brush all surfaces of the dentures. Rinse thoroughly and keep them in water when not in use.
If you have implant dentures, be sure to:
- Remove them before going to sleep at night
- Clean the dentures carefully, including around the attachments
- Keep regular dental appointments
- Call our office if you have any irritation or other problems
While you can enjoy all your favorite foods with implant dentures, avoid very hard or very sticky foods, as these can cause damage to your dentures.
